Dreaming of an elopement that blends intimate vows with thrilling adventures? Jackson Hole, Wyoming, with its breathtaking landscapes and serene beauty, is the perfect backdrop for an intimate wedding. With its stunning natural beauty and enchanting landscapes, this location offers the perfect backdrop for an all-day adventurous elopement. In this blog, we’ll guide you through the steps to plan a day that’s filled with romance, excitement, and unforgettable moments.

1. Choosing the Date: Select a date that aligns with your preferred adventure activities and the weather you desire. Whether it’s hiking, snowboarding, or kayaking, Jackson Hole’s seasons have something unique to offer.

2. Apply For and Purchase a Special Use Permit:

The special use permits are on a first-come first-serve basis, so apply as soon as you pick your elopement location and you can secure your preferred elopement location, as Grand Teton limits the amount of permits given out each year. Check out the steps below to see how to obtain a permit.

  • Fill out the application.
    • On the application, be sure to note if you are applying for either Reserved Site-Specific Ceremony Permits (for more than 12 people) or Small Dispersed Ceremony Permit (for less than 12 people).
    • Under the “List of Equipment” section, be sure to enter your photographer/planner’s contact information (i.e., name, email, website, phone number). If you haven’t hired them yet, email this information to once they’ve been hired.
  • Email the completed application to no less than 30 days prior to the event.
  • Pay the $200 application fee electronically by visiting
  • Once your application has been reviewed and payment confirmed, you will be emailed a preliminary permit within 7-10 days.
  • You will then have seven days to review, sign, and return the draft permit back to the email.
  • The final permit will then be emailed back. You must have a printed copy of the fully executed permit on site during the event.

3. Guest List: Decide if you’ll have any guests join you for the adventure. Keep the group small to maintain an intimate atmosphere. Close friends or family who share your love for adventure could make the experience even more special. From the parking area, it’s about a 3-5 minute stroll up a trail to the ceremony location and only 6 vehicles are allowed in the parking area. If you plan on having a large group join you and your partner it will be best to hire a shuttle service for all of them.

4. Adventure Itinerary: Design an adventurous itinerary that aligns with your interests. Jackson Hole offers activities like hiking, wildlife tours, skiing, snowshoeing, and more. Plan the activities around the ceremony to create a seamless and memorable day.

5. Getting Ready: Choose accommodation close to The Wedding Tree and your adventure locations. Use the morning to get ready, sharing intimate moments with your partner and capturing candid pre-ceremony shots.

6. The Ceremony at The Wedding Tree: Exchange vows under the shade of The Wedding Tree with the majestic Teton Mountains as your witness. Enhance the natural beauty with minimalistic decor that complements the surroundings.

6. Adventure Photoshoot: After the ceremony, embark on your adventure of choice. Hire a skilled photographer to capture candid moments and breathtaking landscapes. Be it hiking to a scenic viewpoint or a more accessible option, wherever you choose in the Teton Valley it is stunning, let the adventure unfold.

7. Intimate Picnic or Mountain-Top Meal: Pack a gourmet picnic or arrange a mountaintop meal to enjoy as a couple. Savor each bite while taking in the awe-inspiring views, creating cherished memories.

8. Sunset Celebration: Plan your adventure to conclude near sunset. Toast to your new journey together as you watch the sun dip behind the mountains, painting the sky with vibrant colors.

9. Stargazing and Campfire: If your elopement adventure continues into the evening, take advantage of Jackson Hole’s clear night skies. Set up a campfire, snuggle under blankets, and stargaze together.

10. Creating Keepsakes: Collect mementos from your adventure, like a small rock or a pressed flower, to keep as cherished reminders of your special day. Frame adventure photos alongside your wedding pictures for a unique display.

11. Legalities and Documentation: Even for an adventurous elopement, ensure you adhere to all legal requirements for marriage in Wyoming. Obtain the necessary permits and licenses well in advance. If you want to get a marriage license in Wyoming, you must apply in person. To get a marriage license, you need to fill out this form:
