Hindu Wedding Ceremony

Carmen & Dave

Hindu Wedding Couple Portrait

What a day…capturing Carmen and Dave’s Hindu Ceremony at the Brooklyn Park Activity Center in Minnesota. Their Hindu Ceremony was one of the many wedding celebrations with their family and friends.

Before the main ceremony, the Baraat starts. A Baraat is a celebratory wedding procession for the groom which usually includes live music and a lot of dancing.

At the entrance, the dad’s greet and shake hands while Dave’s aunts and the ladies shower him with gifts. Another brief ceremony called the Pooja happens before finally entering with Dave.

The main ceremony occurred under a huge arch structure called a Mandap, where the priest who is known as a Pandit marries Dave and Carmen. This ceremony usually lasts 40-50 minutes, following with formal portraits, a dance skit known as Sangeet and lots of fun dancing! I loved that they’ve incorporated many Chinese customs from Carmen’s side of the family. Stay tuned for my next blog of their American Wedding celebration.
